Take a Closer Look at South LA’s Physician Gap
The most urgent healthcare need in South Los Angeles today is filling the community’s physician gap—primary care and specialists who can offer appropriate care for the conditions so many of our community members suffer. Lives will be saved with the right outpatient care—and there simply are not enough doctors to provide that.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is playing an important leadership role in creating solutions.
In collaboration with UCLA, and with support from funding partners, MLKCH is deploying initiatives to recruit and retain much-needed primary and specialty care physicians to South Los Angeles.
Throughout this year, we’ll be shining our spotlight on this strategic priority of filling the physician gap, exploring what the physician shortage means to our community, and what the hospital is doing to help.
Our first article in this series, “Moving Mountains, Recruiting Doctors to South LA” introduces the unique medical group the hospital has created to recruit and retain physicians.
