MLKCH Earns New Tech Recognition

‘MLKCH HONORED BY HIMSS ANALYTICS WITH STAGE 6 RECOGNITION.' The recognition might not be meaningful to many, but the significance of our hospital's technology achievement will have a great impact for residents in South LA.

That's because the achievement directly ties into our hospital's mission to deliver high-quality patient care.

Reaching Stage 6 on HIMSS Analytics' EMR Adoption Model refers to the effective use of the hospital's electronic medical record system. In use since opening, rendering MLKCH nearly paperless, our electronic medical record system streamlines communications among healthcare providers, shares and collects diagnostic information faster, and reduces medical errors. For our patients, that means a better, quicker treatment experience.

Only 26% of hospitals nationwide have achieved Stage 6 on this EMR Adoption Model—and none in their first year. These are big reasons the hospital's achievement deserves celebration.

Our Unique Opportunity

Beginning with the planning stages, the hospital’s intention has been to deliver high-tech, high-touch care. Long before it welcomed its first patient in May 2015, the hospital had invested a great deal of time and consideration in the design and implementation of its infrastructure, applications, and health information technologies.

Unlike existing, older facilities, MLKCH had the opportunity to create a state-of-the-art healthcare delivery model from the ground up. This allowed the hospital to quickly assess the effectiveness that such innovative systems have on patient outcomes—continuing to put us in a unique position to model safety-net healthcare delivery for hospitals nationwide.
