StudioSoCal Spotlights Medical Transformation

Screen capture of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas on Studio SoCal TV program

The transformation of the entire Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center campus was the subject of a June 2015 episode of StudioSoCal, a program of PBS SoCal. Beginning with a tour of the state-of-the-art Martin Luther King, Jr. Outpatient Center, which opened in June 2014, and concluding with interviews with Director of LA County Public Health Services Dr. Mitch Katz and LA County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, the episode also included a segment with Dr. Elaine Batchlor, CEO of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital.

In contrast to the troubled King/Drew hospital of the past, Dr. Batchlor stresses that quality won’t be taken for granted at the new MLKCH. In addition to the new oversight, leadership, staff and culture, she explains that quality of care, safety and patient experience will be measured and shared.
