Our Hospital, ‘We’re Open to Everyone’

In March 2016, MLKCH CEO Dr. Elaine Batchlor spoke about the new hospital with host Brad Pomerance on the Time Warner Cable Local Edition television program.

During the interview, Dr. Batchlor answered questions about the hospital’s partnerships, mission, history, and how the community accesses the hospital’s services. Dr. Batchlor emphasized that a distinguishing part of MLKCH’s mission as a safety-net hospital is to be “open to everyone.”

In her remarks, Dr. Batchlor pointed out that while the hospital’s opening offers new access to services, this is just the beginning of its work in South Los Angeles. "Many more people have health insurance... but they need providers in their community who can provide the care,” she said. “It's still a community with significant shortages of physicians.”

"Filling the gap in physicians is part of the mission of our hospital and is part of improving the health of the community,” Dr. Batchlor stressed. "There's a lot of work for us to do and we're going to be able to have a real impact for the people who live in the community."
